Stephen Colbert's Sister Running For Congress: Should He Get Involved?

This will be her first campaign for public office, and should she win her primary on March 19, her potential rival could end up being former South Carolina governor Mark Sanford, who resigned abruptly in 2011 in the wake of an extramarital affair.

While we are sure this will give Colbert a lot of material for his show, The Colbert Report, the bigger question is whether or not he will campaign for her on his show.

We're guessing he won't — it definitely complicates matters with the equal-time rule, which states that U.S. radio and television broadcast stations must provide an equal opportunity to any opposing political candidates who request it. This means that if a station gives one free minute to a candidate on the prime time, it must do the same for another candidate. We're pretty sure Colbert has no desire to give any air time to his sister's opponent.

Another reason why we're pretty sure Colbert won't campaign on his show? He has never really broached his own personal life before. Why start now?

Whether or not Colbert decides to campaign for his sister, this will definitely give us a new perspective on the Colberts in the public eye.
